Warminster-Online has been "Online" now for about 1 month as of time of writing.
(In its current form, it went live around about end Feb 2007).
Site is designed, owned and operated by Mike Read. I have lived in Warminster
now for about 10 years, after marrying a local girl.
My reasoning for doing the site was two-fold. Primarily the intention was
a central repository for all services available in Warminster and surrounding villages.
There are loads of people providing local services around, but how do you find them?
(ok, so we go to the Yellow Pages or Dentons, but I wanted to find them on the Internet).
I had thought about charging for advertising, but it only took quick visit to a
few of the franchised sites setup around warminster that charge for advertising
to realise that they had about 2 adverts each. So, I made the decision to
provide it for free. If I had made the decision to charge for adverts, I would
probably have had all of zero adverts by now. Not really much use that.
My second reason for developing the site was to provide a showcase for the types
of site that I can develop. I also run
Talk-PC
as an evening / weekends project. I do website development and I wanted a
really good slick business-like site that I would hold up in front of customers
and say "I did that".
